The Alabama Department of Education recognized four Autauga County schools as 2026 Purple Star Schools recipient designees or renewals, bringing the total to 10 schools in the 12-school district. This year’s honorees are among 77 schools statewide who proudly earned this designation for their commitment to students and families connected to the nation’s military.

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and the Lutzie 43 Foundation partnered to host a Safe Driving Summit at Prattville High School ahead of prom weekend. The Safe Driving Summit aims to educate local high school students about the critical importance of making safe driving choices. “The Safe Driving Summit — a partnership between ALDOT and the Lutzie 43 Foundation — contains critical tools to keep young drivers safe in the state of Alabama,” said Dalton Middleton, Drive Safe Alabama coordinator with ALDOT. “Nearly 10 percent of crashes in the state of Alabama in 2024 involved a driver aged 15-19 years old.” Mr. Middleton commented during his welcome message that Autauga County ranks fifth in the state for teen driver crashes which led to PHS being selected as the presentation site - only the third in the state.

Summer is quickly approaching, and Autauga County Schools is encouraging students in grades 7-12 to make the most of the school break with various summer school options offered through Imagine Learning and ACCESS courses.

The Autauga County Board of Education adopted the In-District Enrollment policy (5.56) to allow families living in Autauga County to choose the school environment that is best for their children through an application and selection process. Families may apply for their children to attend a school that’s different from the zoned area based on their home address. This application-based process replaces the district’s outdated hardship program, and opens once per year for transfer requests to be made using a digital form, and is limited to the capacity set for each enrolling school.
